Birding for Beginners

  • Veterans Park 6335 Portland Avenue Richfield, MN, 55423 United States (map)

This outing is planned with true beginners aged 16 and older in mind, although all birders are welcome. We will start with a binocular demonstration, short introduction to bird ID, and will discuss strategies for finding birds, and the many ways to enjoy the outdoors while birding. Bring your own binoculars and guide books; a limited supply of loaner binoculars will also be available. Individuals under 16 years must be accompanied by an adult.

We will meet in the Veterans Park parking lot near the entrance to the playground and refreshment stand.

Accessibility description: The path is paved, wide, flat and there are no slopes. We will walk approximately 1 mile. There are several benches along the path. If you have questions or concerns, please contact one of the outing leaders – Mark Paller (palle001@umn.edu) or Michael Sawyer (sawyertv2@mac.com ).
